Property Description
Mahikan Trails (Mahikan is Wolf in the Cree language) has been operating in the Bow Valley since 1996 and has provided unique outdoor experiences to International visitors, corporate groups, school groups and local tourists. Located in Canmore, Mahikan Trails offers a wide variety of hiking options with ability levels to suit all groups. Their prime area of operation is the Kananaskis Valley, a pristine area offering a diverse choice of terrain with trails leading out the back door of Sundance Lodges. Highly qualified guides reveal the local secrets of this magical place and will enhance every guest’s experience with their exceptional skills in interpretive information on such subjects as natural medicines, culture, history, geology and wildlife.
Mahikan guides hold memberships with Mountain Parks Heritage Interpretation Association, Interpretation Canada as well as sponsoring the Central Rockies Wolf Project. Their guide’s qualifications are in: Association of Canadian Mountain Guides, Canadian Association of Nordic Ski Instructors, Advanced Wilderness First Aid and Survival Instruction. All guides are experienced in hiking and traveling in the Canadian Rockies.
Mahikan Trails uses Sundance Lodges for its multi day and single day programs. Sundance provides beautiful tipis and comfortable old-fashioned trapper’s tents. Sundance is nestled in a forested wilderness surrounded by spectacular Rocky Mountains.
Every Sundance tent is private & well-treed, with its own picnic table & fire pit. Both the trapper’s tents & tipis have wooden floors, wood-frame beds with foam mattresses and a small kerosene heater & lantern – comfortable camping at its best! At the Trading Post, clean washrooms with flush toilets & showers, a coin laundry, basic groceries & snack food, a gift shop, and equipment rentals are available to their guests.
